Charity Partner Of Dorset Children's Foundation

As a local family business, it was important that we give back to our local community and support a charity that is close to our hearts and makes a difference within our area.

We are incredibly proud to have become a charity partner of Dorset Children's Foundation (DCF).

We hope that our staff will come together, along with the community we work in, to support DCF in a number of ways over the coming years.

About Dorset Children’s Foundation

The DCF was founded in 2013 and is a small, independent charity created to enhance the lives of local disabled children and their families. They provide our Accessible for All programme of play and sports activities, Mental Health Counselling services for our families and fund support groups and Stay and Play sessions that help bring families of disabled children together. They also have a variety of special needs equipment that can be loaned out to families, and in some cases, we provide funding for vital equipment.

In addition, they support educational workshops on disability to help raise awareness amongst the younger generations and work towards building a more inclusive society.

Each year, the DCF grants at least one family the opportunity to visit Give Kids the World, a magical holiday resort in Florida, to create special memories that will last longer than a lifetime.

Their charity shops in Bournemouth cover their modest overheads so that every single penny donated goes directly to the children.

How We Support The Charity

As part of our commitment to the Dorset Children's Foundation, we will be hosting various events each year. These could be in the form of bake sales, sponsored walks and activities, raffles and other creative activities our staff come up with.

Most recently, we were able to donate £1,000 at Christmas thanks to staff donations. Additionally, at our big 40th anniversary celebrations, we held a raffle, which raised £1,500.

Going forward, we are excited to participate in and promote events organised by the DCF and raise awareness of all the outstanding work they do to support local children with disabilities and their families.

Nick Strong, Director of Stairway Joinery, has said, "We at Stairway Joinery Southern Ltd are delighted to become a partner for the Dorset Children's Foundation. It is such an important charity that provides local disabled children and their families the opportunity to enjoy activities and events that may otherwise not be possible. They also help bring together parents and families to socialise, who may otherwise feel isolated due to their situation.

In addition to this, the DCF looks to educate people to work towards a more inclusive society. We believe this is so important to make these children feel welcome and happy and enhance their lives.

We chose the DCF as we wanted to support a local charity that is close to our hearts. We also have huge respect for the fact that they are able to use 100% of their donations to benefit the children.

We, as a company, have made a pledge to support this charity however we can. One of these initial steps is to ask all our staff members to donate any unwanted items they may have, which we will personally deliver to the DCF's shops as and when required. Aside from physical donations, we are excited to organise events and add activities to our everyday routines that will garner further donations from our staff and local community."
