Traditional Softwood
Stairway Joinery utilise pine, white primed, and hemlock soft woods, ensuring that whatever your preference is – we have it covered. Soft wood provides a warm finish, and is extremely popular with many of our customers. You can choose from a range of traditional turned spindles, inspired by the grand staircases of yesteryear, to create a period staircase that suits your home’s age and character.
Pine
Practical and affordable, offering great value for money, pine is a classic choice for traditional interiors. A popular, light coloured knotty softwood, pine is also ideal for painting, staining or varnishing, giving you the flexibility to finish the balustrade however you like. Finishing your balustrade is essential to protect the timber against everyday wear and tear to ensure it looks good for longer. Plus, a paint or stain can add a splash of colour to your staircase.
White Primed
In a hurry? Then this clever time saving range could be the answer. Each balustrade component is supplied pre-primed in an attractive eggshell finish. Simply sand the balustrade and finish with a solvent-based topcoat of your choice, if you would prefer to add some colour. The Traditional Primed range allows you to create a classic look quickly with a choice of attractive turned spindles.
Hemlock
A clear softwood with no knots, hemlock has a beautifully warm natural finish, perfect for creating a welcoming, homely feel. Its natural good looks can be enhanced and protected with a suitable wood polish or it can be finished with a varnish, paint or stain to complement the rest of your interior scheme.
Traditional Hardwood
Traditional Hardwood is very popular and we use sapele, white oak, red oak, and ash. Drawing on our rich heritage of timber craftsmanship, we have carefully selected a choice of three spindle and newel designs to help you create a superior finish that will make a lasting first impression – a great choice for classic interiors.
Sapele
Dark Hardwood is richly coloured in a deep red brown, and is ideal for creating an elegant staircase with timeless beauty. When it comes to installation, our sapele balustrade looks superb when fitted using the continuous system to create an Over the Post look. Its sweeping curves and smooth flowing lines accentuate the timber’s luxuriously rich finish to create a staircase that will look stunning for years.
White Oak
Beautifully styled and well proportioned, the Designer Collection is an exceptional range of oak balustrade, superbly finished and expertly crafted.
Red Oak
Intensely rich and luxuriously warm in appearance, our Classic Oak balustrade is perfect for creating an elegant and welcoming entrance to your home. Renowned for its superb finishing quality, red oak balustrade is a timeless choice for period and character properties. This premium range is available with a choice of traditional turned spindles that benefit from oak’s natural abstract grain pattern.
Ash
With its attractive light colouring and interesting grain textures, Classic Ash balustrade adds character to any staircase. The subtle appearance of ash beautifully complements the trend for pale, neutral finishes throughout the home, making it a great choice for older homes or newer properties with classic interiors.
